WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE AN IDEA?
Don't worry! Lots of people come to a hack without any ideas. On the Friday evening, you will hear more about the challenges and our tools, and we'll have mentors on hand to help you think about how you can develop a solution with your team.
HOW DO I FIND A TEAM?
Join our Slack channel to meet people and get to know each other ahead of the weekend. We'll also be running a team-finding activity on the Friday evening to ensure that everyone has a team.
WHAT SHOULD OUR TEAM'S OUTPUT BE?
Your technological solution may be an API, app, website, development platform, programme or even something new! You can build in the language and platform of your choice. Your output has to be related to an event challenge. Get creative and build something innovative and unique!
CAN I GET A HEAD START ON MY HACK?
To ensure a level playing field for all participants, all code and assets must be created during the hackathon. Failure to comply with this rule may result in the offending team’s disqualification. You can, however, install The Digital Connector ahead of time and read our tutorial here. You are also free to make plans, come up with ideas and brainstorm prior to the event.
WILL THERE BE FOOD?
Your meals for the weekend will be free and there’ll be plenty of snacks and drinks to keep you energised. On the Friday, there will be food and drinks, and on Saturday and Sunday, we'll have breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks available! If you’ve got specific dietary requirements, please let us know and we will make arrangements for you.
WHO OWNS WHAT WE DEVELOP AT THE EVENT?
Future Cities Catapult will assert no rights of any kind in your team’s work. Each prototype, mock-up or code presented is the property of your team. Your team is fully responsible for protecting any ideas, intellectual property or other rights which may exist in your work and be publicly disclosed.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Bring along any technology you’ll need — laptops, mobile phones, tablets etc., and any other technology you’ll find useful. Don’t forget to bring along chargers and power packs for your devices, as they’ll get a workout.
I'M NOT ABLE TO MAKE IT FOR THE FULL WEEKEND, CAN I STILL COME?
To get the most out of City Data Hack, we recommend that you attend the full weekend.
HOW LATE CAN I STAY?
We want you to come back refreshed and raring to go on Saturday and Sunday, so we are closing the doors at 9pm on Friday and Saturday and re-opening at 8am on Saturday and Sunday.
